Our life is like a journey or a train ride that has many stops and as it stops at
many stations so many people get on and off the train and in this process we come across many people. Some of these
leave an unforgettable mark on our lives. The moments of togetherness spent with
them gives us a new perspective of life and prepares us to face life. better and give us the insight to deal with life.
I
was good in almost all the subjects however when it came
to history my mind simply failed to tick and it almost shut down.
However hard
I tried the dates and the events just petrified me. It seemed like a
mental
block that I lived with for several years. Then in class X it was a do
or die
situation for me. As the marks obtained in class ten are used to decide
what
subjects I could take in class eleven. As I wanted to take science it
was of
paramount importance that I score well. However conquering history
appeared to
me a feat more difficult than conquering
the Everest. I was very lucky that I was good in other subjects so I
thought of
trying to make up for lack of good marks in history by scoring good
marks in
other subjects. However it was essential to pass in all subjects to be
promoted
to the next class. Class X being boards I could not take a chance. Then
my
mother took me to a history teacher who used to live close to our house.
Since
I was scared of the history subject I was even more petrified of the
teacher as
she looked at me sternly. She looked at
my report card and smiled at me. She asked me why I was getting such
poor marks
in history where as all my other marks were much better. I confessed
that I got
confused with dates and whenever I open my history book I start feeling
sleepy.
She understood my predicament and painstakingly explained each chapter
to me.
She taught me history as if she is telling me a story where each
character is
of equal importance. She assured me that I would not fail. She explained
the details of
each chapter as if she is explaining to a friend. Without the fear of
failing
and learning in a friendly way helped me learn and pickup the lessons
quickly.
This togetherness that I shared with my teacher made me realize the
importance
of every subject. I also started respecting her a lot.She was more of a
friend than a teacher and now we were tied with the bond of being
#together. Being with her I could
discuss all my academics with her and she would
suggest shortcuts to memorize important information. Then one day before my exam she called me and gave me a ready reckoner she had prepared for me. It had all the dates and main points of my history syllabus clearly marked. With its help I could revise the entire syllabus withing two to three hours. This time spent with her had a life changing effect on me. My teacher had become a mentor, a friend and a guide. She also taught me
how to attempt the question paper. This helped me not only in the
history paper
but also in other papers as well. In fact the skills that I learned from
her have
helped me in every exam of my life.
